There is a small hole in the ribbed area of of this cover (attached picture). Before i paint the cream color for this area, I wanted to check if this hole is supposed to be there and if so, what is it for? This is the throttle and shift control for a 1956 Johnson 30HP motor. At least that is what it will be going on.

Your help as always is appreciated.
      Thank you
      Bill

That looks like a flaw in the casting, I have seen it on a few boxes.

Mine has the same hole. Maybe for access to adjust something. Without taking it apart I don’t know. When I painted it I didn’t even think about it.

I thought about this some more….I wonder if it’s meant for a needle tip to get in and grease the control pivot?

There’s a hole in mine too. Maybe a hair cleaner (less flashing)

Well after looking for & finding a blow up of a control box I’m going to rescind my comments. Of course the Bosum box has the hole in the front, but not the back. If you look closely you can see the hole just behind the throttle gear in the picture.

It may be necessary for the manufacturing of the part.
Possible a vent in the mold?
