And they’re all the 20 inch long shaft- did they sell many of the 15 inch shaft fishing motors in the seventies and eighties?

Thanks – now back to the Johnson – the seller says it has working trim and tilt – could that have been added later?

Yes, the trim tilt could be easily added at any time….Be sure to get the PTT wiring harness/junction box for it though, might still be in the boat the engine came off of…

No, the short shaft models were usually limited to the 75hp models meant for performance hulls…

There were aftermarket tilt/trim units back then too – also cheaper models that tilted, but didn’t have the strength to trim. A friend of mine had one of those tilt-only aftermarket units added to an 85 HP back in the early 1970s.

Short shafts on larger motors during those years were rare, but common on small fishing motors 15 HP and under.

Just looked at (and passed on) another Johnson 70, long shaft, no t/t, stuck

Did buy the trailer, though 🙂

if the one has a ram between the brackets thats attached to the swivel along with two smaller ones either side, the smaller ones are trim and the larger in the center is the tilt.
