Suppose I have a Johnson model A with worn lower unit gears. Will A-25 gears work to replace them?
I understand the lower unit itself is quite different between the two.
      Thanks for any info

When you say "Johnson Model A" are you referring to the very early motor prior to 1925? Or more generically referring to any Johnson with a model number that starts with "A", like an "A-35" or "A-50"?

Yes ! ‘Johnson model A = very early prior to 1925 in my case
It just so happens I have spare a-25 gears, but a model early ‘a’ with worn ones I heard somewhere they might be different somehow. Can anyone verify this?
          Thanks!

According to the Johnson part interchange list, both gears are the same for the A, A-25, J-25 and J-65.
