Good Morning…..
Can anyone tell me whether a Johnson CD (5 1/2 hp) and a late 50’s RD (25 hp) are the same? I need a ‘heavy’ flywheel for a Frankenstein CD I’m working on. I know it won’t fit under rewind or cover……that’s ok.
Thanks for any info!

I say "pardon me" a lot. I had a 20H, then raced open mod sleds.

Thanks, Richard!

classicomctools@gmail.comSeptember 7, 2018 at 8:55 pm #82407Try an FD 18 or 20 horse flywheel as they have the same taper. A CD 10 horse flywheel will also fit.
September 7, 2018 at 9:00 pm #82408I have to ask…..why would you want a heavier flywheel??
September 7, 2018 at 9:06 pm #82409How ’bout an 18-20hp electric start flywheel with a thicker ring?
Trying to make a super slow trolling motor, ain’t ya?
September 7, 2018 at 9:35 pm #82411Although it would be beyond my abilities, a shrink fitted steel band, perhaps cut from a piece of pipe and machined to size, would add that all-important rim weight.

Old racers are all the same. In the infamous words of Junior Johnson…"There are two kinds or racers: cheaters and losers…"
As usual…thanks for any input!

September 8, 2018 at 1:29 am #82425This begs a question I’ve had in the past. I have seen numerous conflicting directions on how to install the flywheel key. Some say key face parallel to crank centerline and others say key face parallel to crank taper. I have a copy of an Evinrude service bulletin somewhere that clearly indicated parallel to taper. So which should it be? And does it perhaps differ according to motor HP size?
