I got this Johnson (I think) and am trying to learn how to adjust the carb. So far, I have cleaned out the tank and carb. I cleaned the points. It starts and runs but not very long (longest was for about 2 min. It pumps water fine but sneezes if I slow it down or try to idle it. I’ve never adjusted this type of carb and I see that it also has a separate needle that looks to be an air mixture adjustment.

The decal is missing so I don’t know what HP it is either. The model # shows AT 0. I have attached pictures.
What is the adjustment procedure for this motor?
      Thank you
      Bill

        Most likely a 1940 AT-10, 5 hp.
The low speed portion of the carb
is behind the gas tank, and it’s adjustment
needle below the tank on the port side.

Your carb pretty much is the same at the HD, & TD
        model Johnsons.

Thank you buccaneer. Unfortunately, I don’t see anywhere where it tells you where to set both the high and low speed needles at initially. I does say to "see above" for adjusting procedures but I don’t see them. It is a very nice explanation of how the carb works tho.

So…how far open do I set the needles to start?

Try this method. Worked for me.
