Mark 20 won’t spin freely

The flywheel will only turn 1 and 1/2 turns in both directions. I assume it is something in the gear case, someone enlighten me please. I’m in neutral.

make sure the vertical throttle shaft blots are not to long.

Take the lower unit off and see which way the problem goes. Spin the flywheel and if it is free and turns 360…then problem is in lower unit and you already have it off ready to tear down.

Thought so. I remember they don’t come off that easy.

3 nuts and they come off.

Could be a mouse nest, happened to me a couple of times, just an idea, something simple.

Hopefully It is something binding it up in the gearcase. When my motors wont make a full revolution, it always ends up being a broken connecting rod in the powerhead. 😥

gear case off and that’s where the problem is. The retainer behind the prop is left hand threads, right? I’ll need to make a spanner of some type and also for the impeller.

no it is right hand threads on mark 20’s
