What oil and how much should be used in the gas with a mark 25?
Also what lower unit oil does it take?
      Thanks

Not sure about the oil mix but I know it’s out there or someone will reply. As for the mark 5, I think it’s uses the bendix coil? If so there’s no such thing as a cheap one. Old outboard Jim sells them for about $60 a pop.

Mercury specified TCWC3 certified oil, mixed 50:1. I use 40:1 in all of my old green and white Mercs, just as a precaution – oil is cheaper than parts and more available. Have used Tech brand from Walmart for years. Use lower unit oil recommended for shift gear boxes.

Mark 5 coils – is that Bendix or Phelon? Old Outboard Jim may have them.

According to the Old Outboard Handbook, Mercurys from 1956 to 1962 get 6 ounces of oil per gallon, which is 21 to 1, and double that for racing. In 1963 Mercury went up to 50 to 1.

I thought it was 50:1 with modern day oil
