I have used that and aviation form a gasket sealant. It did work but I don’t know how long it will work. I think the cork gasket material by itself would be okay. They both have shelac in their mix.

My father in the year 1971 used epoxy putty..then called Devcon and applied it around the outside where the 2 parts meet. The new owner still uses it and it does not leak.

I’ve never tried these, but Larsen Outboard Service are THE Martin experts:

The 2 piece cork gasket set from Larson is the way to go.

While it does take a little careful work to get the two piece tank apart, it does give you a great

opportunity to get the inside of the tank spotlessly clean

Larson recommends a light coat of spray on gasket sealer on the gasket upon reassembly

and you’ll be good for another 60 years.

(The 2 piece gasket is for the 40/45s and the 3 piece is for the 20)

If you are serious about not wanting your tank to leak, the $35.00 for the set is money well spent.

              Respectfully,

              Bob

I fixed the leak, first I tried Permatex Moto seal and it leaked. I had a roll of cork gasket material and I made two gaskets for the tank. No leak now, it was time consuming but I have plenty of time,
