      My friend is wiring a Faria 33817 tachometer on a 1960 Mercury Merck 700. Does anyone know how many poles the alternator has?

        I’m surprised no one knew the answer to this question. For future reference the answer is 12 poles.

            We got it figured out, Jeff. Hopefully, the weather participates enough to allow a water test tomorrow. This motor has to be perfect. It’s now resting on the transom of a Crestliner Hardtop. There isn’t much room for error in an enclosed cockpit. 🙂
