Help…Need info and pics of Igntion system, coils, and wiring ….for K 45 motor….
Not sure if bad coils, weak magnet, or condensor…..
No spark …. Where does the spark wires attach to the coil? Think I got bad parts from Penn (?)….

      THANKS cb tetonboatermotor

As far as operation goes, that Johnson uses the same coil as on the apposed motor. Like the apposed motor, each end of the coil winding has a spark plug wire attached. In both cases the circuit is completed through the ground connection. This is done or the apposed outboard by screwing in the spark plugs. They doubled the magnets in the flywheel and put two flats on the crank shaft. This makes the motor fire twice a revolution. The spark plug wire on the piston with the ports open is shorted to ground by the flywheel. This is a kind of distributer. If one side or the other is NOT shorted, there is no where for the circuit to be complete and neither plug will fire. It is essential for the flywheel the be half isolated and half clean for good contact. A good coil will develop 50,000 volts, dirty insolation encourages the formation of carbon tracks in this insolation. Electricity is always looking for the easiest way home. Keep it clean. . . 😀

P,S. – Carbon tracks look like cracks in the insolation. They are a string of dirt particles fused by electricity to form a path to ground. This generates heat which imbeds the particles into the insulator. These may be scraped out and sealed with a high voltage dielectric paint. . . 🙄
