Are all the magneto wave / friction washers the same on the Omc
universal magnetos? My RDE-17 didn’t have one as it was set up
with remote controls, but I may want to add a tiller so
I can test out the motor yet this summer.
I see several on EBay, but they’re not all the same part numbers.
The parts manual doesn’t even show the wave washer that I can see.
      Thanks.

I don’t think the RD-17 tiller motor used a wave washer. Instead, it had a tapered friction plug in the tiller twist grip.

Frank, I was going to borrow a tiller arm off an 1957 Big Twin
to try out the 1955 RDE-17…… if it fits.
I was thinking all the OMC twist grip motors of the "universal magneto" period,
had a friction block in the tiller arm, and a wave washer under the magneto, if they
weren’t hooked up to remote controls. Sounds like I’m wrong.
          Thanks!

I believe the ’55 tiller used a stamped gear while the ’57 uses a cast gear. You will have to "borrow" the gear & shaft out of the ’57 as well as the tiller. . . 🙂

The wave washer was used on motors that had a sliding speed control AKA the 3hp JW, etc.

Guess I’m more used to working on the smaller hp, earlier 50’s
OMC’s, seeing that wave washer. Thanks for straightening me
out…… and that saves me $10 not looking for a wave washer!
