Is there any Internet site where you can input an OMC
parts number, and it will tell you what it is,
      and for what model?
Did they have such a parts book "back in the day"?
      Such as the number 378426
      Thanks.

I used that number on Marine Engine .com and it returned "Rings $30"
Used same number on Ebay and got this:

Just happen to reconize that number. Standard piston rings for Fat Fifty 1958, 1959. The book you seek is a Common Parts Reference Guide (for Johnson) & Quick Reference Parts (for Evinrude). You can find them on eBay from time to time. I have them from 1965 to 1978. They are really handy for all the common parts used by model engine. Also list accessories, kits, paint, etc.

I might add that a logistician doesn’t care what a part fits. He is supplying parts caused by a demand upon the system. It is up to the user to supply the part number based on his item needing a part. A hard concept for many to grasp. Keep in mind that every part has a name/number established by the maker of that part which may get lost in time.
Dan has given good reference parts guides for OMC parts. One also needs Price Books to follow superseded part numbers. Many times a part can only be used forward and not to retrofit the old.
I also use the same books Dan uses and the parts book for a given model to establish a part number base on a description. Then look at the inventory which is in a numerical order.

              Thanks for the education guys.
I guess it was just "wishful thinking" that
somewhere a person could "input" an OMC
number on the Net and have it tell you
what it is and what it fits.
I was just browsing Ebay this morning and seen
these rings that seemed like a great deal.

I guess I have nothing to they would fit. Guessing a "Fat Fifty"
has a bigger bore than my little outboards!

Some parts programs that dealers have will show what a part fits. Go to the dealer that you buy parts from they may look it up and tell you. If you buy parts only on line then you are SOL.

                      Thanks for the information guys.
That "Parts Reference" pdf file has lot of information in it.
Just wish my pdf viewer would let me search for a particular
                      part number.
