Hi guys and Gals, I just picked up a propeller at a rummage sale. It should work on something in my pack. The leading edge of the paddles are very blunt. Looks like it missed the last grind at the factory. I have the box that it came in and the propeller looks like it was used very little. Did Michigan wheel sell a few seconds? This prop would perform better with sharp leading edges. Would you agree?

Dale, The flat leading edge is certainly odd to see. I am no prop expert by ANY STRETCH but believe a smoothly rounded, semi-sharp leading edge to be the best. A knife edge can lead to some cavitation. Although I have to believe the flat edge would be worse than the knife edge for cavitation as well as performance. I dont know the application for a Michigan PJ 016, but it looks like a fairly small prop, maybe for an OMC 4hp around late 60s to early 70s. I could be completely off though. Just going by shape in the photo.

Maybe someone with more knowledge of props will be able to help out more.

Michigan 012011 is supposed to be a 9×10 for OMC 18,18,20,25hp, also Honda, Yamaha, Mariner applications:

Ya that number is stamped on the propeller. It’s a mystery to me!

Could it have been rebuilt by someone who didn’t finish the edges properly?…or does it appear to be brand new?
