      Can anyone tell me if some rowboat motors had a rope start? I always some them with the knob on the top.

        Hello,
        The answer is yes. Evinrude offered an accessory rope Sheve that became standard equipment in the later years. Other manufacturers of
        that time period offered one as well, Caille is another that comes to mind. I feel most people today are drawn more towards the knob
        Start keeping the true knuckle buster look.

          I believe the Kale Brothers Outboard company (oddly spelled Caille) Introduced an auto rewind starter on there Row Boat Motor in 1914. It used a leather strap. If I am wrong, you may be assured I will quickly be corrected . . . 😆

              alanp, yours was introduced like about 1918, if I remember info given to me….
              I have one as well, it is NOT on my RBM as it starts just too easy…

                  Thanks, I saw one but didn’t know if someone just rigged it up or it was factory. The one I saw looked different than the one in the picture.
