Has anyone seen this before? Looks like false representation by an offshore brand. It makes me quite angry.

February 1, 2018 at 4:10 pm #70512Looks like piracy of the name and reputation to me. What’s with the model years 2013-2014? Is that all they got away with?
February 1, 2018 at 4:56 pm #70513I’m not sure the Sea King brand was ever registered as a trade name… Perhaps MW let the registration lapse.
It appears someone is purchasing contract manufactured outboards in China and is selling them here…. they look a bit like Tohatsu.
Really dodgy:
o No link to dealer locations.
o The only contact info is a Yahoo email address.
o The website shows out of date product.
o The website has not been updated to comply with Google’s https directives
o The site was put up in 2012 and will go off the air in April if the owner does not renew it.
o The owner is Shelly Hudson and his business address is in Nanaimo, BC.Conclusion — not a serious business. Probably an experiment that failed.
P.S. There’s an Aussie version: http://www.ausmarine.biz/seaking_outboards.php
February 1, 2018 at 7:46 pm #70517Offshore manufacturers can put anything on their product and it seems there’s nothing stopping them either. The phone number originates from the Seattle area.
February 1, 2018 at 9:26 pm #70523Once a name or other trademark is abandoned, it’s fair game for anyone else to pick it up and make it their own. In the 1960’s when Pontiac cars no longer wanted to use their trademarked outline shape of the Indian Chief Pontiac’s head, they feared some other company would use it and confusion would result; so for several years, they kept using it, but only as the outline for the hi-beam headlight indicator light on the dashboard where it was hardly noticed.
So Sea King – not used since Montgomery Wards folded up, was fair game for anyone to grab and use as their trademark. It could be argued that it’s false advertising to compare the new ones to the reputation of the old though like the website does.
DaveFebruary 1, 2018 at 10:31 pm #70525It’s definitely misrepresentation. The Sea King name is fair game, but stealing their history is not.

February 2, 2018 at 12:05 am #70529This is just like the "Herter’s" name being hijacked by foreign sporting goods and ammo companies. I don’t fall for it..
February 2, 2018 at 1:10 am #70532Another old-time trade mark, PURE, is hanging in front of all kinds of beer/grocery/gas stores. Use it or lose it.
