Topic: Threaded hole above water pump housing on Johnson TD 20?

On the starboard side of the gear case, slightly above the water pump housing is a hole. It appears to be threaded for a #8 machine screw. Should there be a machine screw in this hole? Is it a "Vent" for the gear case when adding lubricant? The manual doesn’t show any screw for this hole nor does it refer to it at all. Curious…
