Does anyone have the instructions or page number handy for timing the starters with compression relief on these motors? I glanced thru the 10th edition but couldn’t find it. I know it’s in there somewhere.

The compression relief is "timed" by using the correct rope length. When recoiled, the arm should be in the position shown. As soon as you begin to pull the rope, the arm moves outward in the scroll, opening the valves.

Thanks Frank. That’s exactly what I was looking for.

            Now the valve gap?

Valve clearance is .018"-.025". Adjust with motor cold and rope recoiled. Loosen locknut and turn screw in till it just touches valve stem, then back it out one half turn which will give approx .025". Check with feeler gauge.

BTW, this stuff is given in the powerhead section of my service manual.

Found it! Pages 316-317 in the 10th edition.
