I have a few “A’s” that need the transom screw pad replaced, how are they best removed.

insert a thick “U” shaped spacer between the back of the pad and the transom bracket and unscrew the clamp screw… the pad will pop off. A handy “U” spacer is the opened jaws of a large Cresent wrench.

PS, why do the pads need to be replaced? look OK in the pix

          Hi Joe,

Clamps in picture are from a parts motor.

One clamp on restore motor has a broken thumb screw.

I’m also searching for piston rings if you have a lead on where to purchace.

I’ll give “Marine Engine” a call on Monday.

          Thanks for replying.

The Penns currently have those rings listed on EBay under antique Johnson outboard

I did not find the rings on e-bay offered from Penn. OEM Ring# 5-194

I only found a set of butt-end rings from another seller, mixer…x

Try Ed Elliott.  He might have the rings – eddelliott@cox.net
