Could someone take a look and send me a picture of how and where safety strap 5 mounts.  I assume it is to hold the rope handle cover from being lost but do not see anywhere where there are attachment points.

      Thanks!

Do me a solid, can you goto Marine engine .com, choose your motor and dig thru the pictures and post the pic of what part you are referring to?

I say this because I believe each parts breakdown uses the #5..

        Thanks

        Richard

          Richard,

I have it shown on the Parts Diagram attachment that was submitted with this post,  the post came through and the attachment didn’t.  Is the attachment still pending moderator review?  This is what happened last time I posted this question. Did it go the spam folder again?

That strap looks like it is for the main cowl, I believe that the cover uses spring plates to hold it in position and they do not always work. I know of a few guys that take that cover off, the one that covers the pull cord, and put it someplace unless they are displaying the motor, as many of those covers are lost.

Thank you, Richard, I was hoping it somehow attached to the pull starter cover to prevent it from being lost.  Fortunately, the spring plates still hold that cover tight when it is in place.

I looked over the cowling again last night and still have no clue where that strap is supposed to be connected.  Somehow anchor 4 connects to one end.  Is it supposed to be connected to the front carburetor hinged cover to limit how far that swings down?

                  Any insight would be appreciated.

The strap for the main cowling uses the cowl pivot pin, item #1 on your drawing, to be held in place, the other end goes to the back end of the recoil.. Should be a button for it to connect to on the recoil.

I think that is the strap that holds the front door from coming too far open.  Should attach too a little clip in the faceplate.  Other end attaches to back of door.
