I have rebuilt the carb on my 3hp Sea King, re mounted and getting no fuel! It was running ok before I removed to clean and rebuild. I was super careful when I pulled it apart and put back together. It seemed pretty simple when I rebuilt but apparently not. Any help from anyone with experience on the Gale carbs is appreciated.
April 10, 2026 at 5:11 pm #314945Is fuel getting to the carburetor? When in doubt, loosen the gas line
at the carb.Did you do a “blow test”? Blowing air into the carb fuel inlet (with your mouth)
with the carb (empty) in the upright position to verify the needle is opening,
and with the carb upside down to verify the needle is seating?Prepare to be boarded!
April 12, 2026 at 11:25 pm #315222I am getting fuel to the bowl because it overflows through the top when I prime it. Should this be happening?
April 13, 2026 at 8:41 am #315258no float mal ajusted….check inlet needle should work just like a toilet bowl !

April 14, 2026 at 7:52 am #315377When you prime it gas will leak out through the top of the bowl through the float pin. It’s when you let go of the primer it should stop.

stay tuned!

As Ken has stated- when you prime it, gas will leak out of the float bowl, and possibility the air intake of the carburetor . When you let go of the primer it should stop. If you believe it’s not getting fuel because it wont start, it could be flooded. Take out the sparkplug and check to see if its wet. If it is, shake out any fuel. Close the mixture screw all the way. With the sparkplug out, pull the motor over vigorously 12 to 15 times. This may spit out some excess fuel and will add air so the extra fuel can ignite. Put the plug back in. Pull the motor over vigorously another dozen times with the mixture screw still closed. If it takes off and runs for a bit you know that it was flooded.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
April 25, 2026 at 4:38 pm #316460I just tried all you suggested above and still no fire. I reassembled carb by the directions in the manual to make sure I didn’t do something wrong the first time. Still nothing. I even did the pop test, spraying some mixed fuel into the carb air intake and still no pop. I also checked the reed valves and they look good. I am stumped! To review: the motor cranked without a problem but was running a little rough (mainly not idling well) so I pulled the carb to clean. I cleaned and reassembled and now the motor want fire at all. The carb bowl fills when I prime so fuel is getting to the carb. I have compression, spark and fuel but no fire. Not sure what to do next. I would say it may be weak spark, but the motor fired easily before I cleaned the card. Not sure what to do next.

April 26, 2026 at 7:52 am #316513I would try spraying the mixture directly into the cylinder, putting the spark plug back in and try and see if it “barks”. If it has spark and compression it should fire. It’s worth a try if nothing else.
