      Well, we’ve been discussing a recoil start motor. The safety switch serves a dual purpose of grounding the cut-out switch and starter solenoid on electric start motors. Therefor it prevents electric starting at high throttle settings. Note the extra white wire on the lower left corner. It does not prevent rope starting. That is taken care of by the lockout on the front of the recoil starter. Just FYI, here is the wiring diagram for an electric start motor.

        Frank, THANKS. I thought I was going nuts trying to figure out that Safety Switch!
        I have not started worked on the rewind, but now that you mention it,
        I do remember that it has said lockout. My RDE-17 was missing that mechanism,
        so I’ve never had the pleasure yet.

        Thanks for the wiring diagram. White wire to starter solenoid noted.

        I just finished redoing the magneto kill wires so they go under the
        the coils……. a real PITA, but glad you pointed it out!

        Now on to wiring up the “stop” button!
