Hello.iginition is good.compression 72 and 77. rebuilt the carb.with low speed needle(does not have high speed needle) at 1 1/4-1 1/2 turns it only runs with choke pulled and stalls when revved.i cleaned the carb twice, then rebuilt it again.still the same. I turned low speed needle to 3 1/4 turns and it runs much better but at idle it speeds up a little by itself and stalls . Even tried remote fuel tank.any help is greatly appreciated.thanks

Did you clean out the fixed high speed jet with a thin piece of wire?

can you feel a good vacum pull on the carb face when cranking ..

if not wrencero’s point may be correct…and the engine can not “pull” enough fuel vapors to keep the engine from starving

I don’t believe they have crankshaft seals.

Checked parts list. Don’t think it has crank seals. I’ll have to try that later. Just drove 3 hours to pick up another 3hp. It seems like a vacuum leak???

You can remove the reed block and have a look.

Check the butterfly shaft bearing area on the carb for wear. Air leaking in here can cause all kinds of issues. The passageway in the carbs bowl has to be clear to. It runs from the bottom of the bowl, behind the main jet, up the carb body and can be plugged. No crank seals on these motors. The oil in the 16:1 fuel mix does the sealing.
