I notice the “M” logo on one of the coils yesterday. I believe that
        indicates OMC parts?

I ran the motor today in the test barrel and it runs great.
There’s no visible Tell-Tale for the cooling water that
I could see. The cylinders were warm to the touch, but not
hot. My infrared heat gun showed around 125 degrees on the
cylinders after running about 10 minutes.
        Sound good?

no tell tale on those 3hps … just  dumps water down the exhaust and out  a series of parallel holes in the form of a heavy…warm  mist.

The water level in your tank is high enough that it covers those tiny exhaust/coolant relief outlets, so you can’t really check if there is a fine mist of water coming out of the holes.  Your temp gage readings would indicate that it is cooling fine though.

Don, I tipped the motor up a little to uncover the exhaust holes,
but wasn’t sure I really seen a mist blowing out, but it sure
seemed like it’s running cool, so I hope it works out for the
              owner.

I recall seeing a lot of those Buc and always thought they were OMC. But according to whoever put this display together, if I’m seeing the color correctly, he has them marked as possible aftermarket.

I believe this display was put together by Art Sesselberg. He was the Yankee Chapter president at the time but has since passed away in 2016.

A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.
