I am going to sign out on this one. I assure you, I have done this job many, many times before, but don’t know what went wrong in there because it’s never happened to me. It’s so simple, there aren’t any common pitfalls. Perhaps someone else?

Frank – I’m pretty sure the gas valve O-ring was not seated correctly (not pushed all the way in), resulting in the valve end (the pin) not sticking out far enough. When I connect the fuel line, it does not push against that valve/pin enough to lift the other end (held down by the spring) off the O-ring, allowing gas to flow. Does that make sense? In any event, I’ve ordered a couple core plugs and will revisit that O-ring as soon as they come in.

Your concept of how it is supposed to work is correct.

I had a problem much similar as yours the pick-up tube has a one way valve at the bottom I soaked it in carb cleaner and it started working properly.
