I have a gear case that I cannot seem to seal.
I believe that the gear case halves are not a matched set.
All the innards are in great shape including NOS prop shaft.
So would like to take everything from the inside and put it in another gear case housing .
      Through my limited research
      ( I have parts list for 1953-1954-1955 and 1956)
I believe I can use the above years and everything would fit.
I base my judgment on (which could be wrong) that 375861(gears and pinion
bearing are present in the above big twins
In order to make my search more encompassing- I was wondering if I could include 1951 and 1952?
I did notice that drive shaft-shift rod and impeller housing are different.
Would any of that matter or it was such a minor change and OMC assigned a different part number.
P.S. I have not tried looking into Gale models

Are you looking for a gearcase housing to put your current gear set into? Only1955-56 are the same. 1957 got a redesigned pinion gear and bearing. The lower unit from a 1957-58 will fit as an assembly. Probably any five bolt standard lower unit from 1955-70’s will fit as an assembly.

Before swapping out housings, have you tried to seal the leaking case with Permatex Ultra Black Gasket Maker? That stuff works really well at sealing up larger than wanted gaps and once cured, is virtually leak-proof. Might be worth a try.

Yes I am looking to put current gear case set into different housing. My housing is mismatched. I know 1957 housing will not work because of pinion gear is different. I know I can not use super quiet. 1959 and up have two water tubes. So it will not work

Thanks for the suggestion but I’m through messing with this gear case.I tried seven time already.

Try pressure testing it and spraying some soapy water on it to try and find where it’s leaking from. It might not be a problem with the case and could be something simple.

I did pressure test it with soapy water
Bolted the halves together with three screws.
And I was able to force a piece of spaghetti seal into the grove without too much effort.

If that picture is with screws installed and tightened, you certainly do have a problem. That gap between the halves is not normal. Mismatched, bent, or whatever. Don’t overlook the Gale 25hp gearcases in your search.

That picture is the halves tighten with three screws and then a one inch piece of spaghetti seal mildly forced into the groove
Funny thing though is when I got the motor/gear case the gear case had oil and no leaks.

Let me try to pose the question differently.
What gear cases will directly bolt up to my RDE-17?
                        I know 1955 and 1956 will
                        1951?
                        1952?
                        1953?
                        1954?
                        1957?
                        1958 RDE-19?
