Before I place a want ad(gear case)1955 25 hp RDE-17

Nothing before 1955.will bolt up.
1957 and 1958 Non-super quiet will bolt up but are different inside.

25hp Gale 1955-63 will work (possible slight differences inside)
35-40hp Gale will bolt up but are different inside

EDIT: Correction: 28hp are same as Gale 25 and will work (possible slight difference inside) 33 definitely different inside

Frank – When you use the phase “will bolt up but are different inside”
So the water tube will line up and gear shift will line up?
Good to go?

Yeah that stuff will align and connect. By different inside, I mean the different pinion gear and bearings as the chief difference. So the complete lower unit will work, but you can’t mix the internals.

According to Marine Engine
28 hp was made from 1962-1964
33 hp was made from 1965-1970
