Another place to look is the transom clamp area, the part of the flange that sits on top of the transom. Some of the other very early sea kings had the serial number of top there.

Looks like we are narrowing it down! I guessed 1935 but you may be right about the serial number. Next question – did all the Thor singles of this era have that rolled steel lip on the back of the tank?

Early THor’s (1935 and 36-ish) had the angled lower unit and a tank without the lip (aka grab handle ledge) on the lower rear seam.

Later Thors (I’m suggesting 1937 and up) starting using the grab ledge on the tank and almost always had the round steel stampings for the gearfoot.

So 1937 it is! Just have to figure out why the S serial number. And i need to find the proper tank with the rolled lip on the back.
