Nice project. Maybe the cylinders were a repair and the correct Elto style probably couldn’t be found. I have an Elto Ace with matching numbers but an Evinrude cylinder, old motors got repaired and kept going. If only they could talk.

The early sand cast iron cylinders were made by Evinrude. Later Johnson furnished Die cast cylinder with a copper tube wrapped around the grey iron sleeve for cooling. . . 😀

The recommended C7 plug has been replaced by 526 listed as an industrial spark plug. . . 😕

Note the rounded cyliinders, extended muffler/exhaust manifold and distinct carry handle. Try to ignore the decal that says "Elto Lightfour Imperial" lol

As a comparison, here are the exhaust manifolds/mufflers of 1936 and 1937 Evinrude Lightfours.

And here’s the side view of a 1935 Elto Lightfour Imperial with all the bells and whistles. Note the squared off cylinders where they meet the front cowl:

BTW, I’d love to know what the parts catalog calls the fitting between the tank and the shut-off valve on the 35.

And I’d be curious to know if anybody has seen it on other years/models.

PS. Chris – check your PMs

Collected the Elto Handifour yesterday. Missing it’s carry handle. Looking forward to the project for winter: is this a contact point setting of .020?
