No sign of uneven wear might be because it wasn’t run after the rod was twisted.

Thanks for the replies. You gave me a little more hope of at least
getting the rod “better” than it is…… especially when they
say “straighten it with a wrench”!

Do you have to use heat to straighten those bronze rods??

I tackled the twisted rod today. I “think” it went well.
I removed the twisted rod from the crankcase and did
a little measuring with a “triangle” ruler and a machinist rule.
Top to bottom journals of the rod were out of sync or twisted,
              about 1/16″.
I put the rod in the vise and used a 12″ Crescent wrench to
tweek it. About three tweeks and I was happy about the twist,
but then further checking showed the top of the rod was a little
out of parallel along the crankshaft axis. I put the rod back in
the vise lenghtwise in the jaws, and used a block of wood to
              tweek it back to parallel.
I put the power head all back together and I can feel no binding…..
              guess that’s a good start!

Buc – well done! Glad to see that worked out. Just curious – what did you use to clean up that power head? Looks really clean.

Bob, Besides mineral spirits, the two cylinders were sandblasted, after
I stuffed them with rags and screwed down the open ends to a board.
Of course, after that, a good scrubbing inside and out with spic and span,
and hot water. topped off with paint!

Buc – OK, thought it might have been painted but just wondered about the cleaning process. Nice work so far – keep posting progress pics. Anxious to see how this one turns out.
