        Thanks Steve! I rebuilt it in 1980 from 3 different Zephyrs, new rings etc. It’s been a great running motor for the last 35 years. Thank you all for the great information!

          I made an equalizer ring today out of aluminum and new springs (made 10 extras) using the spring making instructions Mumbles posted. Now the pawls work in unison.. Not real pretty but works great. Thanks everyone. Carl

            Great Information!
            Simplex starters should have been called "Complex Starters."
            Does anybody have this information for the Evinrude Lightfour Simplex starter? It was similar but not identical. In those days the idea of interchangeable parts between models didn’t seem to work for Evinrude.
