Wow, nice find, DB! I bet this motor is going to double it’s running time in the coming year. : )

November 5, 2025 at 10:40 am #301219Nice find! Few look that good! While you have the flywheel off, change the condensers. They go bad over time whether used or not. You may want to polish up the points with #400 sandpaper or stiff carboard. They have a high silver content and that can tarnish, which is like a coating of insulation on them. You can polish them up without removing them. Gap should be .020″ when max open.
Use at least 24 to 1 gas/oil mix. Some people use 16 to 1. I use 20 to 1 because it’s easy to dump a quart of oil into a 5 gallon can of gas and top off the motor’s tank from that. I use that 20 to 1 mix in 16 to 1 and 24 to 1 motors.

Nothing I like better than seeing coils like this!

November 5, 2025 at 3:53 pm #301247Today I cleaned the carb and stripped the magneto while waiting for new coils and condensers. I have a supply of NOS points, so I polished some and installed them and put the “old” ones in my spare parts pile. Will put the coils in when the Brown Truck shows up!
I put my initials on the welch plug on the carb because I do good work!

David,
I’m sure I can add to it’s hours! It was right up the road from me too!

Aidan,
I’m looking forward to running it. Thanks for the pressure tank offer, but I have 3 or 4 already so should be good to go!

November 5, 2025 at 10:59 pm #301266Nice find!
I can’t help but wonder whether or not it was even run long enough to complete the break in procedure… Just in case, might be a good idea to give it extra oil for the next few hours of run time and keep varying the rpm to help preserve it as best as possible.👍

November 6, 2025 at 10:39 am #301275Congrats! It’s a gem!
It is particularly hard to find nice originals from the ‘58 evinrude line! They were prone to fading very easily, but that paint color combo is my absolute favorite!
Enjoy!!
