If you use JB Weld you should use their gas tank sealer. This tank sprung a leak this summer. Being away, I used it so I could still run the motor. I made the patch large enough to give it the best chance to work. I ran the motor on and off for about 6 weeks. It held up fine. If the tank is too thin to be welded I’ll be looking for a replacement. Just putting a thin line on your crack isn’t likely to be sufficient. If you don’t mind having a lump of it on the tank, it would be the easiest and least expensive option. A gas tank sealer wouldn’t be visible. PRO sells an 8 oz can that isn’t too expensive.The best repair would be soldering IMO.
A "Boathouse Repair" is one thats done without having tools or the skills to do it properly.

Well I hadn’t given that much thought. Your comment got me to thinking. Several things occurred to me. I decided I’d try the chisel first. While that’s working it’s not just popping off. Took 3 try’s for the first piece to come off. I chipped off a couple more. I’ll get the rest when I get to it. I’ve never used this stuff before. It’s really stuck on there. No sigh that the gas had loosened it around the hole. The tank had a patch in it. I wouldn’t put much gas in it to barrel test the motor. First time I filled the tank was when I put it on the boat. An internet search came up with this stuff and it was easy to get. I cleaned the tank there really well and scratched it up with some sandpaper. It worked great for what I was using it for.
