I have never seen a 1959 Gale Bucannes 35HP with electric start, other than the Sovreign model. The regular Buccaneer 35 was only pull starts as far as i am aware, but could be worng. That is why there would be no cogs on the flywheel for the generator drive. Any flywheel from a 1961 or earlier 25,35,40 should work. I likely have one if you need it. The generator bracket would need to have provisions for the gale style hood mount to be attached. I would have to look at some part numbers o be sure what motors could provide the correct bracket.

Gale offered 35s with electric start every year they were made (1958-1960). Same for the 25s made before that. I have a 1958 35 with electric start. The model numbers had an E added in the middle of it.

Actually, 35DE12B is a Sovereign. Has somebody removed the front doors from yours? I can understand why they would have. What a noisy motor they were!!

Well, then I guess I am wrong. Someone please help me with the exact model number. Mine is an electric start, 35 hp, 1959 Gale Buccaneer. The motor is in winter storage at the moment, so I am going on what I have noted in the past.
                      Thanks much.

Actually, it doesn’t make a whale of a difference if it is a Sovereign or regular Buccaneer. Pretty much the same thing. But now that we are “discussing” it, how did you determine it is a 1959? 1958 Buccaneer 35 electric start was similar except for the Sovereign trim. Also, are you sure it is a 35hp? Again, 25hp and 35hp are similar in many ways. Does yours have compression relief valves in cylinder head (35hp)? A running change in 1959 (35D11 vs 35D12) was the tilt lock on the stern bracket. 35D12 series had the type shown in the inset. 35D11 had the separate knob.
