This is my RD-17 (pic attached).
I cleaned out a lot of crud form that little hole you see just to the right of the prop.
Now after I run it, it will seep water/oil from that hole for an hour or so.

I assume it’s a drain of some sort but wanted a little more info.
does this drain residual water in the lower unit below the impeller? I cant seem to figure out the water channel it is accessing.

I believe you are correct. Let others add their .02 to be sure.

Correct, a drain hole. There is a sizable cavity inside there that will hold water (and freeze) if it doesn’t drain.

          All is OK.

just keep it open … next time you drop the lower unit to change impeller run a weed eater wire up the drain hole to locate it inside the LU

they frequently clog up with oil residues sand weed whatever so keep it open to drain properly in case you store in freezing temps

give it a good shot of compressed air on occasion

so i guess the gunky water/oil mixture that comes out is ok – as opposed to just water? Is the oily mess unburned fuel that is in the exhaust portion of the lower unit area?
              thanks for the replies!
