Since this is my first time removing coils like this I hope I can save some one time removing they coils. Don’t even try and slide them off. 😉

Careful of the tab that you have to bend straight remove coil and then bend it back to hold the coil in place.

I just use a hack saw, and saw across the coil on the opposite side as the tab. I place the assembly in a vice and gently tighten. The laminations can be easily distorted, so don’t go crazy. The hack saw should be cut down to the laminations, without cutting into them. It works easily and does not harm the laminations like attempting to force them off. Then use a screwdriver to pry the coil open.

Those may not be the worst I’ve ever seen, but they come close! 😮

Usually a sigh of a low hours motor.
The mag on top is from a winter project
to come. The Champion mag is from
one of last winters projects. The
coil that looks OK has the exact opposite
issue with the covering. It was soft and
gooey. I’d never had one like that before.

Yes, My KG4 looks to have very low hours as new as I have ever seen.
Maybe the Champ had a replacement coil?
