Before trying experimental repair work, find out how rare o common the
basic magneto plate is. Long shoot or sure thing…I do not know
but, seems worth checking out. Many magneto plates like the one
in photo are zinc alloy not aluminum. I do not hold out much
hope that welding would be a lasting repair due to stress of
screw clamping to obtain a friction fit.
It may be that a hole could be drilled and tapped in such a way that the crack could be secured against further breakage. Give lots of
thought to process before starting out.
      Just an opinion not fact

Here is my two cents on this project. I would take the pinch bolt out and get a proper size hose clamp to go around the housing and use the clamp to tighten it up for some tension.

        get’em wet don’t let’em set!

I like your idea Dale…., and much better than the Red Green

There are many ways to fix this broken mag plate. Dales idea is a good one and does not cost much.

If this motor were mine I would have the broken piece professionally Welded.
I would then install a thick washer in slot to prevent over clamping force from
          Being applied.
To provide correct friction for motor operation, I would use very thin brass
Shim stock between surfaces to provide friction to prevent unwanted mag
          Plate movement.

Hey fifty2One, is there more of that Thor material available? (parts list and such). It’s not shown under the Thor SIG page. Thanks for your suggestions.

Early Thors had many issues until Carl Kiekaefer figured them out and re-engineered them. This can be fixed. It needs to be welded and machined.

With a great many thanks to “ART DEKALB” and using his AO magazine index, I was able to look up
More info on THOR Motors. I will see what issues I have and scan them & post to this site.
I wish more members would take the time to scan the information they have and post it for all to use
And learn from! The club also needs a place or person to send information to be scanned to be
Cataloged and posted to this site, as it is much lacking in this regard!
