        Carbon is the correct answer–sort of. But that by itself doesn’t seal anything. Sealing requires ALL of the components working together to seal anything.

            ?? You should have found it on the top end of the drive shaft, as soon as you removed the powerhead. Wasn’t it there?

              I’m sure there is seal but that I didn’t recognize it for what it was at the time.

              I bought this motor from Toms Used Outboards about ten years ago and have put many hours
              on it. Karma hasn’t let me go fishing for the past two years during which I at least turned it over every
              couple of weeks.

              I’m away from home for a bit but when I return I’ll let you know what I find.

                Salutations,
                There is a carbon seal assembly in the motor frankr.
                I’ve ordered replacement pieces as needed to include the seal itself.
