I’m currently restoring a 1937 Champion Deluxe Light Twin. I believe your Viking Twin would be somewhat similar to mine but not identical. Your engine crankcase, cylinders and gearcase would be a dull aluminum color. Your driveshaft tube could be painted brass or polished brass (I’ve seen both). Not sure about your fuel tank – mine was chrome finish. Here’s a picture of my ’37 as it sits right now – I’ve posted progress pics under the Current Projects section here on the Forum. One other note on yours – it looks like the rope plate may have been changed out to a non-factory piece at some point in it’s past life. The Champion twins usually had a rope plate similar to mine – see pic. Some of the Champion motors had a rope plate similar to yours but they still had the “Champion” name somewhere on the plate.

This will sound like a dumb question but does the metal used on these motors have to be painted since they would be exposed to water?

Thanks for letting me in the OOAD club.
