Did the coil mount on the two bolts above the grab bar?

      Has something been altered here?
Should I have the steel, vertical straps behind the grab bar?

Coil mounts similar to Light Twin and Speedster motors.

No the straps should not be there, I’m not sure what that would have accomplished.

Looks like your Speedster is a nice original.
          What year is it?

In looking at those added straps on my grab handle,
the only thing I can see is that the mount pads
would have more bearing area resting on the straps,
rather than the "quarter size" round boss on the crankcase.

I don’t have an adjustment knob on the top of my carb,
and I don’t see one on yours. Must be a "knob bandit" on the loose.

Also, I see your grab bar has an "on / off" switch mounted to it.
It looks factory from here, but I assume it’s not??
          Thanks!

UPDATE- found out why the steel straps were added.
One boss where the handle bolts on is broke out.
Hopefully I can fix that up.

The toggle switch became standard on later models of the Sr Speedster.

The motor with the black decal is #19, and would be a 1931 motor, it has the four-hole flywheel and no toggle switch, and uses the older style timer.

The one with the toggle switch is in the 800’s, it might be a 1932 model. It has a three-hole flywheel and the later style timer. It also has the primer button on the bottom of the carb (bottom RH side if you’re standing in front of it), which the earlier one does not.

            Hope this helps.

Thanks, I’ll add the info about the switch to my notes.
From what I read, it sounds like that during the depression, they may
have used parts from multiple years to get another outboard out the door!

My carb has a spring load button on the bottom of the carb,
but appears to be missing a knob on the top.

Is my 1930 Speedster suppose to have a three hole flywheel?

              Appreciated.

My bad, my mind is still working on the Super C.

The first Sr Speedster in my pictures is a 1930 model (not a ’31), the second one is later (prolly ’31, or ’32 at the latest).

If yours is a 1930 motor, it needs the four-hole flywheel and accompanying timer.

I believe it was thought I had the correct grab bar or handle on
my Elto, but the bosses on the crankcase that the handle bolts
to seems undersized, but it’s hard to tell examining photos from
other owners. I don’t have the page from the parts manual
                  showing the handle.
The top of the boss on one bolt hole was broke out some,
and therefore someone had added the steel straps.
I attempted to repair the boss with alumi weld rods.
Do I have the correct handle?

its the right grab bar. The face of the mounting lugs on the crankcase do not match up with the grab bar casting.

Well, as long as everyone else’s Speeder has the same problem,
I’ll just pass it off as a poor design.
                      Thanks

I looked at my grab bar and it looks like yours has had a piece cut out between the bolt holes.
