The coil ground is for the primary coil to the breaker points. The secondary (High Voltage) coil is grounded through the spark plugs being screwed into the cylinders. If one side is missing it is because the spark has found a lower resistance to ground (Engine block) than through the spark plug. Look for a crack in the plug wire insolation, usually where it is clamped to the magneto plate. . . 😉

It looks like I have weak spark. The points light up like the fourth of july but the spark on the plugs is weak and blue. I filed the points really good and reset them several times at different gaps. I cleaned all grounds. The coil tests hot with a 10k scale multimeter from spark wire to spark wire. Kind of at a loss here. Any thoughts?

Thanks, Tubs. The problem did turned out to be the condenser. I put in a condenser from a 1933 Neptune ob4 and it works fine. I think I am going to have to find one that fits better. Am I looking for one that has particular specs or just one that works?

Thanks to all. Here is a video of it running:

Looks like your hand comes awful close to that spark
plug when you advance the magneto…. nothing like
30,000 volts to wake you up in the morning! 😯

              Prepare to be boarded!
