I finally "got to" the magneto today on the subject motor.
Coil tested okay on the ohm meter, but hook up to the Stevens
      tester another day.
I didn’t realize when I took the motor apart that the magneto
advance / kill switch handle was broke off. 😮
Looked at photos of my uncles, and sure enough, he has one.
I forgot to measure the distance between the handle bolt holes.
What’s the chance a handle from another mag will fit? 🙂
It must have been broke for the last owner, as there was no
kill wire dangling out the bottom of the mag plate.
If worse comes to worse, I’ll bolt on a broom handle!
Still have not figured out what 18mm spark plug I should
      use. Any one know?

At least it’s all going together, albeit slowly. Putting the lower
unit together was kind of a "pain". I think I had more "Right Stuff"
and Ultra Black Permatex on me that the motor!

Buccaneer- looks really good!! Can’t answer your questions on the handle or plug but was just wondering if you finally got the crank binding issue resolved?

Timer handle – Its an Eisemann magneto… or is it American Bosch? I disremembered exactly – at any rate, the magneto is not a Thor product. Caille model 79-88-99-109-119 uses the same magneto. Thus, there is more than one motor that uses that style of magneto.

Spark Plug – do you have a copy of "The Old Outboard Book" by Peter Hunn?

Spark plug charts galore in there. Tells ya everything you need to know about antique motors and which plugs to use.

Thor uses a Champion 6M. If it was my motor, it would still be using a 6M. Apparently I’m an idiot for using old plugs. You can also use a Champion K15J.

          Hope it helps.

PM T2, thanks for the information and reminder about
the "Old Outboard Book". I just got that book back
from my uncle after a long absence and forgot what
            a great resource it is.
I never heard of a Champion K15J, but I’ll see how it
compares to the Autolite I have in the hole now.
For as little it will get run (if it runs!) an old 6M would
            be okay.
The magneto on this SeaKing / Thor is a Wico FW 891B.
            Thanks!

Bob, After I spun it power head with a drill for a while, it loosened up some.
I added a leather seal above the upper main bearing (where there
was no seal before) and it was snug as well.
The lower unit kept the original brass bushings, but I replaced
the crumbling cork seals there with leather ones. The lower
unit seems a little "stiff" as well, and when I got it attached
to the power head I was afraid it was going to be a problem.
But my fears eased when I put the flywheel on and spun it by
hand, it seemed decent. Next day I attached the cylinder and
piston, and the flywheel "rebounds" backward under compression
while spinning the flywheel by hand, so I think I’m okay!

Buccaneer- that’s outstanding news! Sounds like you’re close to shocking the heart and bringing her back to life! It’s great when this old iron gets to live again. Good luck on the final steps.

I got the magneto back together today with a new capacitor,
clean points, and new plug wire, and was glad to see it has spark!
Going to try to make a new gas line tomorrow, etc. Not much left
before the "God of Thunder" beckons!

I have something you can do.

What’s your address? I’m boxing all of my ’37 Sea King parts up and sending them to you so you can work your magic on them! 😀

Mumbles, all of my "time" in the garage will only
be considered "Magic" it that thing actually runs!
Let’s not jump the gun! 😆
