I recently picked up a Chris Craft Commander. It is missing the lower cowls, and has a broken and missing tiller arm. The motor was lightly seized, but I was able to break it free in under 10 minutes with PB Blaster and a few light taps with a hammer and wooden dowel on the pistons. Compression is good. It has spark but the coils are cracked. I have found a set of the military surplus coils for it so I have that squared away. Unfortunately I dropped one set of points when I was cleaning off the corrosion and one of the contacts snapped off and flew off to God only knows where in my driveway.. I cannot seem to locate a set of Bendix Scintilla points anywhere and I am looking for leads.

For even more fun the lower unit is missing the impeller/ impeller cover and whatever holds the impeller cover in place. I cannot find a parts list or owners manual anywhere. The Chriscraft outboards website is no longer viable/deadlink and I understand the poor soul who ran it has passed away. If anyone even has pictures of what is under the propeller for the impeller cover and mechanism for holding it in it would be very helpful.

If any one has one of these motors that has grenaded and is willing to offer parts that would be even more ideal.

      It's rough but has potential.

what is left of the tiller arm

this is the contact that snapped off.

the impeller housing is there but no cover or means to hold the cover.

          Hi Sean
Looks like Dave will be able to help you out, but if it’s any help, I lost a small screw in similar circumstances and
I found it by tying an old speaker magnet to piece of string and dragging it backwards and forwards for a few minutes.

Thanks for the replies. I did spend the better part of two hours sweeping the driveway with a 700lb pull fishing magnet. I found all sorts of goodies, bolts, wires, pieces of metal , couple pounds of metal shavings from grinding dust. But ultimately no contact located

not sure but I don’t think the contact is magnetic.

It looks like the lower unit is damaged, maybe flared out somehow. If you need LU let me know…
