I have a note in my P. Hunn book for
      Speedster serial numbers –
      (Outboarder – July- 2006 Page- 8).
I dug around and found the issue.

They must not have known about the “Great Depression”.
Life looked good…… electric start, and remote steering.
Wonder how the throttle was hooked up……. then again,
I don’t remember seeing anything but a couple of poppet
valves when I took the carb off……. will have to look again!

There was no throttle control on the carburetor. All you could do was vary the needle valve setting.

Speed control accomplished through advance/retard of spark only.

The electric-start model had a tiller handle control that slid back and forth to change timing settings.

Some of the Speedsters on YouTube looked like they clipped right along.
I presumed "poppet valve" carbs with no throttle were only on little
          outboards like my Thor. Interesting!

          Prepare to be boarded!

Thanks Tubs, I hadn’t thought to look in the Outboard Archives yet!
