Last year I picked up a decent 32 Elto Super A.
It turned over a bit stiff and found a rod slightly bent and also no rings.
I fixed the rod easy enough and I installed a new set of Hastings rings. 2 questions,
The Pistons have no locating pins. I know this started to become common in the early 30s. I have installed new butt joint rings. Were the original rings butt
jointed or slanted or over lapping?
This motor was also painted silver. The cylinders still have a decent amount of nickel plating so I’m thinking this motor wasn’t painted from the factory. Was any part of this motor painted from the factory?
I really like the look of this motor with the embossed tank and would love to run it this summer. Thanks for any help.

I Had 1939 Fleetwin which are very similar
except for the ignition and a variation in
the carburetor. The rings weren’t pined in
            it either.

Thanks Tubbs that’s what I was thinking too.

XR55, Yup it is a cool looking motor. I’ve never seen one run at a Yankee chapter meet. Maybe I can get it done for our Shelton meet in September.

Anyone have any idea as far as the paint goes?

I picked one up on Thursday at a club member’s auction. Been after it since he first got it twenty-five years ago 🙂

Great acquisition Bill. They are great looking motors.
Is any of the aluminum painted on your motor?

I’ve also found silver paint over the plating. Plating was to prevent corrosion, rather than cosmetic.
