I was going through saved photos, and can’t remember the story
on this one. Did Maytag really make an outboard, or is this someone’s
fantasy outboard? If so, it looks like a nice job.
What lower unit is the Maytag mounted on?
That looks like an old Maytag washing machine motor on a salvaged lower unit. They are a "hit and miss" type motor, but it would work ok I guess. I’ll bet it’s a noisy beast.
I wonder how the engine was fabricated to bolt on to the lower unit.
By the looks of this Maytag twin, it would take some work.
Presume the non Maytag carb was plumbed into where the
original fuel pickup tube was.
I don’t think the single cylinder Maytag would be any easier
to fabricate, and I’m thinking the twin would be a lot more
pleasant to hear and hold onto the tiller handle!
Wish there were more photos of this Maytag Outboard!
There was probably an adapter made as well
as fabricating a new upper half of the drive shaft.
Most anything can be done but just because its on
there doesn’t mean its ready to push a boat.
That photo of the washing machine motor with the foot pedal starter brought back memories. In the 1950’s, two kids on my street had what we today would call homemade go-carts made from 2x4s, old coaster wagon wheels, and Maytag washing machine engines.

There were 5 of us.
Couple of mine.
We used old reel type lawn mower engines.
