      My 1957 Johnson doesn’t have a way to keep the motor tilted up except the friction adjustment.

      Hit the right bump and it is ‘skeg down’.

      Seems a transom saver would be a good idea. I always use one.

        Here’s the factory lock that screws in from the side of the transom clamp on my 1958 RD 35 HP Johnson. The handle on the right is the regular transom clamp, the handle on the left screws in from the side with the motor tilted up to hold it up. This is probably one of the types Frank said broke on rough roads:
