Here is a speedster…. from the serial number, sources tell me it’s a 1929. Looking at the cylender ends, they have the dimples other sources say make it a hi speed speedster. If this was the case, would I not have an H superceeding the serial number? The idea crossed my mind, do I have a hi speed motor with a service speedster tank?I dunno, may I ask the experts?
      Thanks

I believe 1929, but there is more than just the cylinders to make it a true high speed..just not positive other will step in..good find

Is there an "H" stamped on the top of the flywheel at the nut? Look at the front of the carb and see if there is an "H" there and is there an air manifold on the back of the engine between cylinders? Check and see if the serial number stamped on the base of the crankcase matches the one on the tank. It does not have the gearfoot that was used on the high speed model.

It might not be a high speed Speedster, but it sure is a nice motor. Good find.

Notice it has the gear case with the mounting pin for a rudder….

Well, I swear I looked this Motor over for markings, but there you have it: a big old S on the flywheel. No markings on the carburetor. A service speedster, 1929 sounds pretty solid to me. Thanks to all who contributed to help clear this up….
thanks for the compliments, as well…. I plan on getting this one running next… I went thu the carb, found it quite clean, as well as the gas tank, there is grease in the lower unit, all seems pretty tight, lots of bounce on the flywheel, and no up and and down play…. I don’t think this one ran much at all…
thanks again for the info, all the little deatails about these motors makes this an interesting game!

What about the auxiliary air intake manifold on
the rear of the block. If that is there its probably
a high speed. Standard carburetors are marked
also so not having a visible mark doesn’t mean
its not a high speed. With out the auxiliary air
intake it would be a standard with high speed
                      cylinders at least.
There is also a serial number stamped into the
block, under the cylinder, on the starboard (right)
side. Does it match the number on the tank?

The high speed model gives a pretty good boat ride. The ignition is also set up for higher RPM. Sorry, I believe you have a standard model. . . 🙁
