Your 1954 Big Twin has an automatic reverse lock.  It works with the gear shift.  It does not have the lever on the front of the transom bracket.

Speaking of Garry, anyone know how is he doing? I have been out of touch & in the hospital for 6 months, you know covid & west nile virus. I am luckey to be alive. I will nver forget his story about a station wagon full of props his Dad recieved from Evinrude to test on his 1954 Fastwin 15 motor. Garry had many great stories, God bless him.

Jeff good to have you back with us!    That crud is a bugger when you get it for sure.   I too liked reading Gary’s stories.  His expertise on Evinrude was awe inspiring!   It would be nice for him to write a book of his and his dads travels and experiences.   I will buy it in a minute!   Hope he is doing good.
