Can’t drop lower gear case 1957 RDE-19

Evening folks!

I can’t seem to drop the lower gear case from my new-to-me 1957 RDE.

I unbolted the bottom bolt from the brass coupler (leaving the top in place). I have removed the 6 lower gear case bolts (I have left one partially threaded just so it didn’t fall off on its own when I left it.

I believe the rod is still attached, as I moved the gear forward and then into neutral and the rod / coupler was shifting positions.

Any ideas to get that rod to let go?
