I going to show a 1966 Evinrude 3hp Folder and the lower portion of the drive shaft linkage for the folder. My 1966 Evinrude 3hp folder is missing the coupler and the stainless steel clip, so I will borrow Chipster’s pic.

This motor is my 1967 Johnson 3hp Folder. It has a coupler that a rim and a washer to maintain its position on the lower portion of the drive shaft assembly.

This motor is my 1968 Evinrude 3hp Folder. It has a coupler that has a rim and a washer to maintain its position on the lower portion of the drive shaft assembly just like the 1967 Johnson 3hp Folder.

So, it looks like the 1965 and 1966 Folders have the couplers with the stainless steel retention clip and the 1967 and 1968 have the coupler with the rim and the washer. I would assume the 1969 4hp Folder would have the same set up as the 1968 3hp Folder.

Thanks! Makes sense now. The new style uses a coupler with a lip at the bottom…Put the washer in place, push the coupler down on the spring, then push the pin through….Sure looks like a better design than the SS retainer clip…I’m sure the newer style components could be used on the 66 models as well… You have got a nice collection of folders there David! I have a 68 Lightwin, but it is a “rigid” model…
